I'll try that out.

You could try to point to your Java in gephi.conf file by changing and uncommenting the jdkhome variable.
But, I advice you to always run Gephi with an Oracle Java implementation, otherwise it is very likely that especially JOGL(for Overview in Gephi) and Processing (for Preview) won't work fine anyway.

I have the IBM Java 6.0 SDK installed on my machine, however Gephi show's me this error after starting up - "Cannot find Java 1.6 or higher". If I run "java -version" in a cmd prompt, I get the following:
">java -version
java version "1.6.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pwi3260sr10fp1ifix-20120
IBM J9 VM (build 2.4, JRE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 Windows 7 x86-32 jvm
J9VM - 20120202_101568"

Is Gephi dependent on the Oracle Java version? Or perhaps I'm missing an environment variable.

Thanks,
Brian.
