error when opening gephi project file

I had this problem too. It appears that the problem was when Gephi files were created in Java 1.6 but opened in Java 1.7 on a mac. To troubleshoot, check the java version from the "About Gephi" menu. If they don't match and you're on a mac, you'll probably have the same problem. I was able to source instructions on the net about how to delete Java 1.7 and then checked to see that they both used 1.6, and now I can open the file on on all machines.
